How much does a Galápagos trip cost?
Galápagos travel cost depends heavily on what the headline price includes. For a standard foreign adult, start with US$200 park entry and a separate US$20 transit card. Add mainland-to-island flights, your bed or cabin, activities, uncovered meals and transfers. Do not compare a tour-only price with a hotel-inclusive programme as if they bought the same trip.
The examples below are supplier-published prices checked on 24 October 2026, not quotes for your dates or a market-wide average. They give concrete starting subtotals and show which large items remain unpaid. All amounts are US dollars per person unless stated otherwise.

Excursion-only travel: the room is still unpaid
Book-ec’s Isabela Pack lists Los Túneles, Tintoreras and Sierra Negra activities with inter-island ferries at US$420 per person. Its FLASH Pack lists a highlands visit, North Seymour, Isabela plus Tintoreras, a bay tour and inter-island ferries at US$700 per person, with a two-person minimum. Neither is a hotel-inclusive holiday.
The supplier explicitly excludes accommodation, park entry, the transit card, water-taxi fares and pier taxes. Some lunches and hotel pickups are included only on selected tours. Do not multiply a vague “daily allowance” by the advertised days and assume every meal and bed is covered.
For FLASH, US$700 plus the standard adult US$220 government charges gives US$920 before flights or accommodation. Add the total price of your chosen room for every night, divide by the actual number sharing, then add meals and transfers not in the pack. Use the supplier’s written dated quote for the remaining local charges; the page’s ancillary fee list is not an authority tariff.

Finch Bay’s published Ideal programme starts at US$1,899 for four days / three nights in 2026, per person sharing a Finch Bay Room, before taxes. It lists three hotel nights, shared Baltra airport transfers, meals specified in the itinerary, one full-day Sea Lion yacht excursion, a Divine Bay kayak visit and a cooking class.
The five-day / four-night version starts at US$2,599 per person sharing in 2026 and includes four hotel nights and two full-day yacht excursions. Flights, park entry, the transit card, personal expenses, meals outside the itinerary and applicable extra charges remain excluded.
Adding only the standard adult entry charges gives US$2,119 or US$2,819 respectively. These are incomplete subtotals, not bookable all-in prices: package taxes and flights still matter. The same page lists 2027 starting programme rates of US$1,999 and US$2,699, so do not carry the 2026 rate into a later-year budget. Solo travellers need a separate quote.
Finch Bay Ideal: year-specific rates and programme inclusionsA complete per-person budget for independent travel
For a hotel-based trip, total these items: international flights; mainland nights and airport transfers; return or open-jaw Galápagos flights including required baggage; park entry and TCT; every island hotel night; booked activities; meals not included; airport and inter-island transport; local pier or water-taxi charges; equipment not included; insurance; and personal spending.
Count room costs per room and government fees per traveller. Two people sharing can divide the room bill, but two standard foreign adults still owe US$440 in combined park and TCT charges. A solo traveller should not divide a double-room quote by two. For children, use the actual age/category rules and the supplier’s child policy rather than halving all adult costs.
For the five-day Santa Cruz itinerary, price four Puerto Ayora nights and both Baltra transfers. For the eight-day Santa Cruz–San Cristóbal itinerary, price four Puerto Ayora nights, three Puerto Baquerizo Moreno nights, the inter-island move, a Baltra arrival and an SCY departure. Those are different transport baskets, even with similar nightly room prices.
Use the 5-day or 8-day plan to count nights and transportIsland hopping adds costs beyond the boat ticket
Galápagos Transfers advertised Santa Cruz–Isabela seats from US$60 one way when checked. At that same starting price in both directions, two boat legs would be US$120 per person before any excluded local transfers or charges. This is one seller’s starting price, not a regulated fare or a confirmed return quote.
An extra island may also require another hotel transfer, baggage handling and a final night near the departure airport. Conversely, flying out of San Cristóbal after staying there can avoid returning to Santa Cruz solely for a Baltra flight. Compare the extra airfare against the crossing and extra-night costs together.
For a short trip on a tight budget, one base reduces the number of separate transport purchases. That saving may be more useful than moving islands for a slightly cheaper room.
Galápagos Transfers: Santa Cruz–Isabela starting fareHow to compare a naturalist cruise with hotel travel
Use the same trip dates and the same number of travellers. On the cruise side, separate the cabin quote, flights, park/TCT charges, mainland nights, embarkation transfers, any uncovered equipment or drinks, tips and insurance. On the hotel side, add the room, all named excursions, transfers and uncovered food rather than comparing the cabin with a room-only rate.
Compare actual visitor sites as well as price. A cruise can navigate between distant sites overnight; a town base offers local visits and selected day excursions. A cheaper hotel trip is not an equivalent substitute if its excursions cannot reach the sites you chose the cruise for.
This guide does not publish a universal cruise price range or compare specialist diving vessels. A naturalist cruise and a diving liveaboard buy different programmes.
Compare what cruise and land-based formats actually includeWhere to reduce spend without cutting the main reason for going
Choose the one or two paid outings that matter most, then build local-visit days around them. On Santa Cruz, this can mean combining town-based visits with a selected boat excursion rather than buying a different island outing every day. Use Puerto Ayora as the base when your early departures are there, so a cheaper highland room does not create repeated road transfers.
Keep a separate contingency amount you can afford for disrupted transport or an extra night; it is a reserve, not a claimed average cost. Compare cancellation terms alongside the price. An attractive non-refundable room and a separately booked ferry can leave you paying twice if the sequence changes.
Santa Cruz: choose town versus highland accommodationFinish with the flight price for your own dates
Price both mainland-to-island sectors and the required baggage before setting the final holiday total. Do not double a single promotional one-way minimum and call it a return quote, or add a round-trip flight again when it is already included in a package.
The budget is ready when each large component has a dated price and a named payer, and the supplier’s exclusions have been added once. Keep the published examples above as comparisons, not as substitutes for the price of your actual route.
