What is the Los Túneles tour?
Los Túneles is a boat excursion to the lava arches and shallow-water visitor sites around Cabo Rosa on Isabela. The practical starting base is Puerto Villamil. Choose it if you want a substantial snorkelling outing with a short lava walk, rather than a mostly land-based sightseeing day. It is not an underground walking-cave tour.
ISGATOUR and Galápagos Blue Sky both advertise about five hours for the trip. ISGATOUR describes roughly an hour navigating out to Cabo Rosa; Blue Sky lists two hours of navigation in total. Those are programme estimates, not guaranteed crossing or return times. Stay on Isabela the night before and keep onward transport off the excursion day.
ISGATOUR: Tunnels or Cabo Rosa tour programmeCabo Rosa, Los Túneles and El Finado: understand the stops
Los Túneles and El Finado are two named stops in the Cabo Rosa area, not two separate island transfers. ISGATOUR describes a walk around the lava formations followed by snorkelling at Finados. Blue Sky advertises a short walk and snorkelling near Los Túneles, then a second water session at El Finado. Its route also includes a seabird-viewing boat stop at Roca Unión.
Two snorkelling stops are not unconditional. Blue Sky explicitly says that unfavourable tides or sea conditions can prevent anchoring at one site; it may extend the session at the accessible site instead. The distinction matters if your reason for booking is a particular formation or the second snorkel. Buy the excursion knowing that the captain can change the site sequence and water programme.
Galápagos Blue Sky: Cabo Rosa stops and tide-dependent substitutionsWho should choose Los Túneles?
Choose Los Túneles when snorkelling is one of your main reasons for visiting Isabela and you are comfortable with a small-boat journey, boarding from the water and time in the sea. A shallow site is not automatically a beginner lesson, and a wetsuit is not a substitute for swimming ability. Before paying, disclose limited swimming confidence or mobility restrictions and establish the actual supervision, flotation provision and boarding arrangement for that departure. The reviewed pages do not establish a universal minimum age or a non-swimmer programme.
For a shorter boat outing near Puerto Villamil, compare Tintoreras. ISGATOUR advertises that as roughly two and a half hours with an approach of about ten minutes by boat, rather than the longer Cabo Rosa approach. Concha de Perla is a separate shore-access snorkelling option near the port; it does not reproduce the Cabo Rosa lava-arch excursion. If you want to avoid a water-focused day, use the town lagoons and tortoise-centre route instead.
ISGATOUR: Tintoreras format and boat approachHow much does a Los Túneles tour cost?
On 25 October 2026, ISGATOUR's public page advertised $140 per person, while Galápagos Blue Sky listed USD 160 for its standard boat. These are two sellers' advertised examples, not a fixed park tariff, a cheapest-price claim or confirmation that either has a seat on your date. Both pages ask travellers to establish availability; Blue Sky specifically requires an availability enquiry for trips within the next four days.
ISGATOUR lists hotel pickup and drop-off, a towel, mask and fins, a wetsuit, a bilingual guide and a box lunch or lunch. Blue Sky lists hotel pickup, a bilingual naturalist guide, snorkel equipment, a shorty or long wetsuit, towels and a meal. Its exclusions include insurance, alcoholic drinks, underwater-camera hire and Isabela entry/port charges. Do not read pickup as a promise of hotel drop-off where only pickup is listed, or treat either excursion price as covering your separate Galápagos entry and transit-card costs.
ISGATOUR states that the tour is non-transferable and non-refundable, with date changes to be reported 72 hours ahead. That is a material difference from a flexible booking offer. Read the terms attached to the actual seller and departure before paying; an attractive headline price does not establish cancellation protection.
ISGATOUR: advertised price, inclusions and booking policiesMorning or afternoon: leave a full excursion window
The reviewed sellers advertise morning and afternoon formats, but their clock times are not interchangeable. Blue Sky's overview, meal descriptions and detailed boarding sequence use different time labels, and it also describes partner boats fulfilling some departures. Use the meeting time and operating boat in your dated confirmation rather than a generic web timetable. Neither a morning label nor an advertised five-hour duration makes a same-day ferry connection protected.
Our suggested three-night Isabela allocation is arrival and a short town outing, one full day for Los Túneles, one full day for Sierra Negra or Tintoreras, then departure. Choose the land or shorter-boat day according to your interests instead of trying to add both to Los Túneles. This is editorial pacing, not a required minimum stay. With only two nights, you have one full day and should choose the excursion that matters most.
Galápagos Blue Sky: departure arrangements and detailed sequenceWildlife, wetsuits and what to bring
The programmes describe turtles, rays, reef sharks and seahorses, with seabirds around the lava and offshore rocks. Treat these as possible sightings, not a list the guide must deliver. Do not choose a departure solely on a promise of penguins, a particular shark or a seahorse encounter.
Both reviewed packages include a wetsuit, but the precise suit and fit still matter. Blue Sky advertises shorty or long suits; establish which is supplied in your size. Bring swimwear, sun protection, drinking water, secure protection for items that must stay dry and footwear suitable for the short lava walk. Keep your bag manageable for a small boat. The walking component does not turn the trip into a dry excursion.
Follow the guide's wildlife and route instructions. Do not touch animals, pursue them for photographs or enter an underwater opening simply because a sales description mentions tunnels. The operator's stop description is not a guarantee that every passage is suitable for you or accessible that day.
